9/11 Remembrance Events and Closures in South Georgia

Honoring the Victims and Heroes

On September 11, 2001, the world was forever changed by the tragic events of 9/11. This year marks the 21st anniversary of that fateful day, and communities across South Georgia will come together to remember the victims and honor the heroes who responded to the attacks.

Events and Closures

Several commemorative events and closures will take place in South Georgia to observe the anniversary of 9/11: * Valdosta: A remembrance ceremony will be held at the Valdosta-Lowndes County 9/11 Memorial at 8:46 AM, the time the first plane struck the North Tower. * Albany: A memorial service will be held at the Albany Civic Center at 10:00 AM. The service will include a wreath-laying ceremony and a reading of the names of the victims. * Tifton: A remembrance ceremony will be held at the Tifton Police Department at 8:46 AM. The ceremony will include a moment of silence and a prayer. * Thomasville: A memorial service will be held at the Thomasville Municipal Building at 10:00 AM. The service will include a reading of the names of the victims and a prayer. * Waycross: A remembrance ceremony will be held at the Waycross Fire Station at 8:46 AM. The ceremony will include a moment of silence and a wreath-laying ceremony. In addition to these events, several government offices and businesses in South Georgia will be closed on September 11th in observance of the holiday.
