Former Monaco Striker Ben Yedder Avoids Pretrial Detention In Rape Case

Former Monaco striker Ben Yedder avoids pretrial detention in rape case

Paris prosecutor’s office drops request, cites lack of evidence

Paris prosecutors have decided not to pursue pretrial detention for former Monaco forward Wissam Ben Yedder in a rape case, according to French sports daily L'Equipe.

Ben Yedder, 31, was taken into custody for questioning on Tuesday as part of an investigation into the alleged rape of a 23-year-old woman in March 2022.

The Paris prosecutor’s office said it had requested pretrial detention for Ben Yedder but that the request was denied by a judge due to a lack of evidence.

Ben Yedder denies wrongdoing

Ben Yedder has denied any wrongdoing and his lawyer, Arnaud Perriquet, said his client was "shocked" by the allegations.

“My client has always maintained his innocence and we are confident that the truth will come out,” Perriquet said.

Investigation ongoing

The investigation into the alleged rape is ongoing and Ben Yedder remains under judicial control while he awaits trial.

Under French law, judicial control can include measures such as a travel ban or a requirement to report to the police on a regular basis.

Ben Yedder is currently a free agent after leaving Monaco at the end of last season.

He has been linked with a move to several clubs, including Lyon and Marseille, but no deal has yet been finalized.
